The Kansas City Royals are an American professional baseball team based in Kansas City, Missouri. They compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member team of the American League (AL) Central division. The team play their home games at Kauffman Stadium, named after the team's founder Ewing Kauffman. The team was founded as an expansion franchise in 1969, and has participated in four World Series, winning in 1985 and 2015, and losing in 1980 and 2014.
In the November of 2019, John Sherman, a local businessman with Kansas City ties, and his ownership group which includes Eric Stonestreet, a Kansas City native and comedic celebrity, purchased the club from David Glass and the Glass family for a rumored amount of $1 billion dollars. David Glass tragically passed away January 9th, 2020.
In 2020, the Royals look to have a good season depending on younger talent and current stars such as Alex Gordon, Whit Merrifield, and Salvador Perez.
